Luscious Metals ~ Luscious Light

The thing about roses…

Does anyone else out there have an interesting relationship with decisions?

I mentioned a few months ago that I was in a place of transition with my life and was going to shut the doors on Luscious Metals and moving into coaching full time.  And that seemed like the logical thing to do a few months ago when I wrote that post.  In fact, I spent the better part of the fall and holiday season, preparing for and talking about doing just that.  I was ready to close the business and start coaching and teaching classes full time.  Done deal.

A little disclaimer– I make slow decisions.  It’s not because I’m waiting for something better to come along, or that I put my head in the sand and avoid.  It’s more like… I can’t decide because I just don’t know.   I have to weigh the options and wait for the answers to appear and sometimes it takes a really long time.  I thought the answer had appeared (although on deeper inspection of that statement, no I didn’t.  I forced an answer because I thought it was the thing to do).  “Make a decision and stick with it!”  (Who did I learn that from?)  Fast forward into February and that super concrete, absolute,  precarious decision has changed a bit.  The truth is,  so did the information I was using to make the decision in the first place.  Am I making sense here?  Welcome to my world.  I always used to think I was a flake but it turns out, I’m just fluid.

So here we are, a whole month into this brand new year and I’ve been fluidly coaching classes AND running Luscious Metals and it’s actually working out nicely.   I’ve had a slew of the most amazing custom orders come across my bench and I’ve been loving creating again (as opposed to just doing production on existing designs.)

I’m launching another series of The Secret to Achieving Your Goals class.  This 12 week course is so phenomenal by the way- I am so honored to be teaching this class.  I’m watching women grow by leaps and bounds as they learn about themselves right before my very eyes, and that is exactly why I’m coaching.

So life is good and while there are still some major changes that will be happening, they are a few months off.  In the meantime, I feel like the chaos of last year has settled down and I’m settling into this dream life I’ve been working on creating.  Changes will come and decisions will be made and instead of rushing the process of any of it, I’m letting things unfold organically.  The most beautiful part of the rose isn’t necessarily the full bloom, every stage is amazing in its own right.  From seed to sprout, vine to bud to blossom… I’m enjoying it all.

Yellow Star

I recently had the pleasure of designing a piece for Shannon Paige, a local yoga teacher in Boulder.  Shannon is a dynamic woman and is very full of energy and life.  She brought me this ring (her old wedding ring) and asked me to do something new with it.  I love the energy around taking old sentimental pieces and redesigning them into new pieces with new meaning.  It can actually be an important rite of passage when one is doing personal work and I see this often when I consult with women on their designs and also in my coaching practice.  It’s very liberating to be able to consciously create new stories while still maintaining a connection to our personal histories.

Shannon gave me very little direction, essentially letting me completely design the piece.  Knowing that she had a penchant for stars, I decided to set this gorgeous yellow sapphire facet side up so as to showcase the buttery shimmer of the sapphire.  I cut a star out of the back plate which I constructed from the melted metal of the ring as well as a bar of sterling she wanted me to use on the project.  The back side is inscribed with the words “Aham Prema” which means Divine Love (this was the only direction she gave me) and aren’t those just the loveliest words to wear up against your skin?!

I also added a star to the chain since repetition is always pleasing to the human eye.  The chain is 24″ and I broke it up with woven crystals and gemstones and also oxidized sections of the chain to provide visual interest.  Judging from the way Shannon jumped up and down and put the necklace right on, I’m pretty sure she loved it!

Intentional Charms

I haven’t been posting here as much as I’ve wanted to but sometimes life is like that.  There’s always an ebb and flow,  sometimes the tide is high and all you can do is watch; other times the tide is low and you have plenty of time to gather and create and act.  I’ve found that at least for me, I can’t predict what any given month will bring and I’m okay with that because I don’t like monotony anyway.

I wanted to share a really fun project I got to work on for an old friend.  She contacted me about making a charm bracelet.  Although she didn’t exactly say it in so many words, I think she wanted this piece to help re-inspire her.  I recognized in her description of what she wanted a yearning for something more, some deeper sense of meaning.  I think many of us reach a point in our lives where we’ve achieved so many of the things we aspired to, we’ve travelled, found love, given birth to children or careers and yet we find ourselves at a crossroads.  Knowing that we have it all and still longing for more, something we can’t quite put our fingers on.  It’s almost as if our lives “come up for review” and though it often feels painful and confusing, it gives us  the push we need to cultivate a deeper relationship with ourselves.

photo-4This bracelet has stones in the colors of a sunset and every charm (including a custom one we made for her) represents something specific to her and her life, something that she’s grateful for and inspired by.  There is so much power and energy in this piece and I truly believe it will help guide her in the next leg of her journey, as all amulets do.

Excitement!

As I mentioned before, Luscious Metals is about to do some changing.  Many of you know that my attention has been split over the last few years.  I’ve been running this company as well as completing some rigorous training in the world of personal development.  I was certified to become a Master Life Coach and began to coach with a phenomenal company called The Secret to Life Coaching last year and I’m still totally immersed in education and various trainings with a focus on psychology and spirituality.   I’ve been part jeweler, part life coach and part student for 3+ years now and it’s been a whirlwind and a balancing act.

I’ve always believed that jewelry is more than just an accessory and I always stayed true to the vision of creating intentional jewelry.  My collections  have focused on pieces that were beautiful but also  meaningful and powerful; when women feel beautiful and loved, they are infinitely more powerful.  As a brand, we worked with the concept of love by creating the Sweetheart Collection.  This line of jewelry was meant to be sentimental and worn as a reminder of all the love we have in our lives and I’m so proud to say that there are hundreds if not thousands of women out there today wearing our pieces inscribed with the names of their babies, husbands, pets and special dates.  We embraced the empowerment concept by inscribing powerful and motivational words on almost every piece of jewelry we make and also by holding contests like our Real Life Beauty promotion last year.  We’ve brought in healing gemstones, culturally symbolic jewelry and metaphysical information in many ways too- like our  7 Weeks of Rainbows Celebration and our Divine ~ Align Collection.  My vision was to present holistic information that related to all of us as women; I wanted to be more than a brand selling products but rather a brand that empowered us to be wise and confident and feel loved.  It’s been a journey and a success but I’m ready to bring these concepts to a deeper and broader level.  While I have loved designing and manufacturing 1,000’s of pieces of jewelry over the years, I don’t feel that jewelry and jewelry marketing is in alignment with where I am now and the gifts that I have to offer at this point.

So, here are the changes I’ve been talking about:  I’m going to go straight into coaching and teaching classes full time and essentially close shop at Luscious Metals.  Over the next few weeks I’ll be releasing new one of a kind pieces for sale through the holiday season and will be wrapping it up after that.

Angel Wing Workshop_abundance

I’ll also be launching my new website soon and will have new offerings  to share with you!  In the meantime, I have 2 classes scheduled.  One is an Angel Wing Pendant Workshop December 6 (you can register for that by clicking this link) and the other is a class called The Secret to Achieving your Goals (starts Tuesday January 6 at 10am MST)  This is a 12 week course I teach for The Secret to Life Coaching.  It is a tele course that meets once a week over the phone so it’s easy to take for anyone, anywhere.  In this course I will teach you to reprogram your old beliefs around what it is possible to create in your life.  Do you have something you’ve been wanting to bring into fruition and haven’t been able to make it happen?   Changes that you’ve been wanting to make?  This is the perfect class for you! It’s also a great class for anyone who wants to learn how to make decisions and really show up in their life, and it is truly a transformational class.   If this sounds interesting to you, please email me at nathaperkins [at] gmail.com to schedule a free coaching session.  This single session alone will be life changing and will  help you get a good idea of what to expect in the class so you can decide if you’d like to move forward and enroll in the class.  Please know that this session in no way obligates you to work with me either!  (Maybe you just need a free coaching session!)

Look for the Holiday Collection release and more info coming soon.  I’m so excited!

Cha-cha-cha-cha-Changes…

I haven’t blogged since July. Wow! 2014 has been quite a year. I won’t be the same person leaving this year as I was coming in and I know there are many of you in the same boat. The old ways of being have simply stopped working and we’ve been prompted to move forward from places of deeper intention then we have in the past. Have you noticed this in your own life? What are you being asked to change and reinvent?

I’ve definitely been challenged by The Universe to make some changes. You know when you’re confused by something and you repeatedly ask yourself rhetorical questions like “what am I supposed to be doing here?”, “whats next?” and “which road should I be headed down?”   I’ve been in that place for a long time now and as those that are close to me can tell you, (because they’re sick of  me asking too) I’ve been in a weird state of limbo for…years. Although I’m pretty adept at floating along in uncertainty and there is a kind of relaxation within it, I’ve grown very tired of this not knowing place.

But now I know. Or at least I know some. And like I said, I’m being forced kicking and screaming asked to face some fears, unload some stuff that isn’t working and to take another step towards my next journey. My jewelry business of 11 years is going to be changing quite a bit too and I’m really excited about that. In the now famous words of Elsa from Frozen, I’m about to let it go.

More on that in my next post (which I promise will be soon)

Lucky Nights

colorado clouds

When I was younger, I used describe the extravagant celebrations that I imagined the fairies were having in the sunset clouds. I explained that their magical parties full of firecrackers and dancing were actually what created the beautiful sunset colors.

Now-a-days when I spot sunset clouds like these; clouds that are shot through with rays of the sun, I always imagine them to be angel clouds. They just seem to embody the light and presence that angels seem like they must have. There’s something that feels very right, and very much like a gift for that matter about getting to gaze at sunset clouds like these. Like finding a lucky penny or a beautiful feather or a seeing a shooting star.

Workshop Series

Sex workshop
We’re excited to announce the beginning of a series of cool workshops where we collaborate with amazing women from our community and combine what they know: Reiki, yoga, food, beauty, music etc. with what we know: art. All of the workshops will have components of inner-work, self healing and integration through art.

This is exciting for me because as many of you know, alongside developing my business into a lifestyle brand where we make and sell intentional jewelry, (jewelry that is specifically meant to empower and have meaning to it’s wearer), Ive also been training and working as a Certified Life Coach. In trying to find a cohesive way to integrate my art and jewelry design background with my interest in helping people (women specifically) re-discover themselves, I decided that a great way to begin the process was to begin hosting workshops where both of my passions could be supported and developed while also promoting other healers in my community. It feels like a win-win.

The First one is Called Your Inner Sexual Goddess and is being held in Boulder Colorado on July 19 from 10am-2pm. I will be co- teaching this one with Janet Raftis of Totem Guidance. Janet is a Reiki practitioner among other things and I’m super excited to get to work with her! If you’re in the Boulder-Denver area, come join us! If not, the plan is to eventually do workshops around the country so if you’re someone who is interested in collaborating with me to produce a workshop in your city, email us at customerservice@lusciousmetals.com.

RAW: Natural Born Artists

awakening_RAW
Imagine this: 30 or so bad-ass artists setting up booths in one of downtown Boulder’s hip clubs. Nude paintings, abstract paintings, steam-punk jewelry, gemstone necklaces and rings, wood burning demo’s, a short film, clothing designers, silk-screeners and 2 incredible fashion shows. We had the pleasure of being part of this amazing show last week! RAW was unlike any show we’ve ever done. A huge shout out and thank you to Johnnie Kuhn who was the head of the show. He seriously pulled off quite a feat. It’s no small task to plan and execute a huge event like this one.
RAW 2

The nightclub scene was high energy but the crowd was beautifully curated. People were interested, talkative and curious. One of my favorite parts were the 2 fashion shows. These indie designers really showed up! They designed clothes and orchestrated such beautiful performances. The hair and makeup artists also did an outstanding job. Their models were true examples of “real life beauty” which I talk a lot about here at Luscious Metals. I love it when women get opportunities to showcase their inner and outer beauty in artistic and creative (and non conforming) ways.
RAW 1

The visual artists showed up with their beautiful art as well. Every time I do one of these shows, I see hard evidence that despite the lack of funding for art in the schools these days, there are still so many highly creative people out there that are creating art anyway. I got to chat with a handful of artists and it was such a pleasure. It’s always so fun to get to talk to our peers in the indie art community to exchange ideas and discuss potential collaborations! All in all, it was a fabulous show.

Dear Valentine,

heart
Oh Valentine’s Day…you tricky little holiday you. You’d have us believe that it’s all about love; who we love, who loves us, how we love, how much we love… You make it seem as if chocolates and roses and jewelry and fancy meals are the very proof of the existence of all of this love. You put on your fancy costumes of red sparkle, brown shine and pink glitter and you parade yourself through our stores and classrooms and internet whispering things like “love is in the air” and insinuating that we must be shown love from the people in our lives in order to feel loved.
But that’s not quite how it works. It’s not about how much other people love us, it’s about how much we love ourselves. If there are ways in which we don’t, then it will be reflected back to us through our experiences with other people. This is why days like Valentine’s Day can be such a letdown for some of us. The chocolates don’t come or the flowers aren’t pretty enough or someone else is madly in love and we aren’t etc. The love we lack isn’t reflected back to us and we get angry or depressed. But if we spend our time hoping for things and people outside of us to make us feel good then we ostensibly spend our whole lives chasing the dragon. The key is in learning how to provide that love and reflection for yourself.
So I challenge everyone reading this to find at least one way that you aren’t loving yourself right now. One way in which you are obstinately waiting for someone else to make you feel whole. Once you find it, ask yourself this: Can I decide to love myself instead? Am I willing to take responsibility for making myself whole? My Valentine wish for you is that your answers are yes…
